About Us

We built the guides we wished already existed.

Hospitality Compliance HQ comes from a team with over ten years' experience in the UK hospitality industry, working alongside the chefs, bar managers, general managers and business owners who run the sharp end of this sector every single day. We've spent that time watching the same pattern repeat: brilliant operators, completely on top of the food, the service, the numbers, genuinely caught out by a compliance risk they didn't know existed until it was already a problem.

That's not a knowledge gap in the way most industries mean it. It's an information gap. The law is out there. It's just scattered across government websites written for lawyers, blog posts written by software companies trying to sell a subscription, and PDFs that assume you already know the jargon before you've started reading. Nobody had actually sat down and written it for the person running a 40-cover restaurant on a Tuesday afternoon, trying to work out whether their allergen matrix is actually compliant before the inspector's next visit.

So we did.

Clear. Concise. Built to actually be used.

Every guide in this series is written to the same standard: plain English throughout, no legal jargon left unexplained, and every chapter built around a simple test, could someone read this on a break between services and walk away knowing exactly what to do next? If the answer was no, we rewrote it until it was yes.

That's why every guide follows the same shape: what the law actually requires, where businesses genuinely go wrong, how to build a real system around it, and a full toolkit of worked examples and blank templates, ready to photocopy, print, and use the same day, not filed away for "when there's time."

Built for the classroom as much as the kitchen

We wrote these guides to work for anyone who needs to genuinely understand hospitality compliance, not just businesses already trading. Catering colleges and hospitality courses use them to teach real-world compliance alongside the practical skills students are already learning. Students preparing for a career in the industry get a genuinely useful head start on the parts of the job that never make it onto a menu-development module. And for a business, from an independent café to a multi-site group, they're the fastest, clearest route from "we should probably look into this" to "we actually have a proper system in place."

Why trust what's here

We're not a law firm, and we don't pretend to be one, every guide says so clearly, and none of them replace a conversation with a qualified solicitor or accountant when your specific situation calls for one. What we do is the work most businesses don't have time for: reading the actual legislation, the actual government guidance, the actual enforcement data, and turning it into something genuinely usable, checked against primary sources, written honestly about what's settled law and what's still evolving, and updated as the rules change. No scare tactics, no invented urgency. Just the real risk, explained clearly, with a real system to fix it.

That's the whole idea. Compliance shouldn't require a law degree to understand or a spare weekend to action. It should be exactly what these guides are built to be: clear enough to read on a break, and complete enough to actually rely on.
